General requirements.

5.5.5 Hole / Slot dimensions.

The area of each hole or slot in fencing / guard structures shall not exceed 100cm2. In addition, the horizontal dimension of each hole or horizontal slot shall not exceed 50mm.

   

The maximum area of any hole or slot was calculated at 37.9cm2.

The maximum horizontal dimension of any hole or slot was measured at 46.16mm

Requirements for structural design

6.2.5.2. Loads on side protection - Horizontal Loading.

All components of the side protection, except toeboards shall be designed to resist a horizontal point load of 0.3kN in each case in the most unfavourable position. This load may be distributed over an area of maximum 300mm X 300mm.

   

Position: Upright outward 0.3kN distributed over an area of 300mm X 300mm sustained for 1 minute without failure.

Requirements for structural design

6.3.3. Elastic deflection of side protection.

When subjected to the horizontal load specified in 6.2.5.2, the grid of a fencing structure shall not deflect  more than 100mm with reference to its supports.

   

Position: Upright outward deflection 40mm.

Max Scaffold Products can now confirm protection has been enforced and the sale of the reported counterfeit brick guards successfully stopped.

KIER. Code blue for Health & Safety. Max one-piece brickguards used by Modus Access were highlighted on the recent Kier safety report.

Report content: A Layher system scaffold constructed by Modus is being used to envelope the building to provide access for all roofworks. A covered sliding roof system has been incorporated to protect the Old Hall during works. The system has been expertly erected with some very good details;

     -New MAX one-piece plastic brick guards
     -Fan covering pedestrian entrances
     -Clean level walkways with infills on inside

Whilst this system is in place on site it would benefit other projects to visit site and view the structure for future works.
